Ambassador Fitrell met with the Elders of Timbo to discuss the important legacy of prince Abd al Rahman Ibrahima and to build on the strong relationship between the United States and the historic community of Timbo. Prince Ibrahima was captured during war and sold into slavery in 1788, arriving at a plantation in Natchez, Mississippi in 1790. Freed in 1828 through the intercession of then U.S. Secretary of State Henry Clay, he returned home to the Fouta Djallon with his family. Prince Ibrahima’s remarkable story continues to inspire us today. #AmbFitrell #USinGuinea
