LI bureau condemns ‘cowards’ who shot at LI vice president’s car during demonstration in Guinea

The car carrying Cellou Dalein Diallo, a vice president on the Liberal International bureau and former prime minister of Guinea, was shot at today as the African liberal was travelling to attend a demonstration in protest at the 2018 local election results in the west African country.

Speaking on behalf of the Liberal International bureau, LI president, Dr Juli Minoves said: “We are repulsed by this cowardly attack against our friend and colleague Cellou, a Bureau Vice-President of Liberal International. We issue a strong condemnation and we reach out to you in solidarity. I admire the courage of Cellou in these trying circumstances and his continued commitment to our liberal values to the peril of his life.”

Recovering from the attempt on his life, LI vice president Cellou Dalein Diallo, said: “I am outraged that these methods are being used in the 21st century. The entire nation and the International Community has just witnessed how low and how far my political opponents are willing to go to implement an atrocious dictatorship in Guinea“, noting that almost 100 demonstrators have been killed since the president, Alpha Conde came to power in 2010.

“I am more than determined to continue this fight. I will not bow. It is a noble fight for Guinea: a battle for the advent of a peaceful democracy and a rule of law so that all Guineans are united and reconciled around our essential values. These actions will not discourage me”, concluded the former prime minister.
